Loyola Women's Hoops Lends Hand to CF's Unmask the Cure
NEW ORLEANS - Head coach Kellie Kennedy and the Loyola women's
basketball team lent a helping hand to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's
Unmask the Cure-Costume for a Cause event on Friday night.
"The Louisiana Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is a great
organization that does fantastic work in the city of New Orleans. Our
players and staff enjoyed being a part of an event that benefits such a
worthy cause," commented Kennedy.
Loyola's participation fell under the university's commitment to the
NAIA's Champions of Character program which promotes servant leadership
by student athletes and coaches in the community. Kennedy served as a
judge for the costume contest, while the Wolfpack players and coaching
staff assisted with the set up and served food to the participants.
Proceeds from the event went to fighting Cystic Fibrosis in the greater
New Orleans area.
"Helping with Unmask the Cure, gave our team a great opportunity to
connect with the community. The participants of the event were excited
to see us and were thankful for our contribution in helping make the
event a success," said Loyola senior guard Laine Woodruff.
Loyola, ranked #21in the NAIA's preseason poll, opens the 2009-10
campaign on Tuesday, November 10 in an exhibition against LSU. Tip off
in Maravich Assembly Center is slated for 7 p.m. The regular season
begins on November 16 at Wiley College with tip off slated for 5:30 p.m.
